El barrio de Chelsea, en Nueva York es el sueño de todo amante del arte. Esta zona es la más idílica de la ciudad para absorber el arte en todo su esplendor de la mano de numerosas galerías privadas que contienen una enorme cantidad de obras para todos los gustos.

Este barrio ha sufrido varios cambios a lo largo de su historia. En la década de 1750 se instaló una línea férrea en este barrio convirtiéndolo en una mayoría obrera y trabajadora.

Poco a poco pasó a ser el núcleo teatral de Nueva York antes del apogeo de Broadway y, cuando se cerró la línea férrea en 1930, la zona entró en una etapa de decadencia. Hoy en día podemos ver vestigios de lo que fue en aquella época el barrio de Chelsea en lo que ahora se llama Distrito Histórico de Chelsea, llena de almacenes y edificios antiguos.

Años después el barrio comenzó a albergar artistas, diseñadores y pequeños empresarios que transformaron Chelsea en lo que ahora se nos presenta.

A lo largo de la novena y décima avenida, los turistas pueden deleitarse con los numerosos cafés y restaurantes, y es al oeste de la décima donde encontramos las variadas galerías a las que acuden los más prestigiosos críticos de arte y decenas de turistas y curiosos que se acercan para admirar las inigualables obras que allí se encuentran.

Unido al gusto artístico, aquellos que gusten de las antigüedades puedes darse también una vuelta por Antiques Garage, un mercado mucho más pequeño que el célebre Flea Market pero por el que merece la pena darse una vuelta.

Chelsea, in New York

The Chelsea neighborhood in New York is the dream of every lover of art. This is the most idyllic area of the city to absorb the art in all its glory from the hand of many private galleries contain a huge amount of work for everyone.
