Un icono estadounidense para el turismo religioso es la Catedral de San Juan el Divino en la ciudad de Nueva York.
Se encuentra situada en la Avenida de Ámsterdam con la calle 112, a pocos metros de Broadway y tiene muy buenas comunicaciones tanto en metro (líneas 1 y 9) como en autobús (líneas M4 , M104 o línea 11).
Este gran edificio arquitectónico es el más grande del mundo, y la cuarta iglesia cristiana de mayor amplitud. Si bien es reconocido por su estilo neogótico, a lo largo de los años ha sufrido numerosos cambios estilísticos, siendo el último en enero de 2005; de hecho, en un principio se pensó en una construcción de estilo bizantino o románico pero finalmente se decidió por el estilo gótico francés.
Las reconstrucciones y cambios que la caracterizan fueron causadas en mayor medida por las dos guerras mundiales. De este modo, a cada reconstrucción le sucedía una restauración.
Sus obras comenzaron en 1892 siendo previamente diseñada en el año 1888 por los arquitectos Heins y La Fargue, y es comúnmente llamada la Catedral de San Juan, la incompleta o la interminable, debido a que más de cien años después la obra aún no ha sido terminada.
La catedral contiene un pórtico impresionante llamado “El Portal del Paraíso” y un rosetón realizado con más de 10.000 piezas de cristales de colores, siendo el más grande de Estados Unidos.
De entre sus capillas destaca la llamada “Capilla del Trabajo”, donde se encuentra el memorial de FDNY, un homenaje a 343 bomberos que dieron su vida por salvar otras en el desastre del 11 de septiembre de 2001.

Chatedral of St. John the Divine, in New York
An American icon for religious tourism is the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. It is located on Amsterdam Avenue 112 Street, within walking distance of Broadway and has very good connections by underground (lines 1 and 9) or bus (lines M4, M104, or line 11).
This great architectural building is the largest in the world, and the fourth largest Christian church in amplitude. While it is known for its neo-Gothic style, over the years has undergone many stylistic changes, the last in January 2005, in fact, at first thought of a Byzantine-style building or Romanesque but finally decided French Gothic style.
Reconstructions and changes that characterize were caused more by the two world wars. Thus, each reconstruction was followed by a restoration.

The cathedral contains an impressive portico called “The Gate of Paradise” and a rosette made more than 10,000 pieces of colored glass, the largest being the United States.
Among its highlights chapels called Labour Chapel, where the FDNY memorial, a tribute to 343 firefighters who gave their lives tosave others in the disaster of September 11, 2001.
